Important Lorain Police Officer Entrance Examination Dates

August 1 - October 7

August 1, 2017: Registration Period Begins

September 6, 2017 — 6PM: Written Test at Lorain County Community College Spitzer Conference Center (1005 Abbe Rd)

October 7, 2017 — 9AM: Agility Test at George Daniels Field (2601 Oberlin Ave)

We have made significant changes to our testing procedure which we would like the public to know. First of all we now are giving additional credits to candidates if they have fall under one of the below categories. We still also offer veterans credit. You can accumulate a total of 20 extra points.

  • Bachelor Degree, Master’s Degree or Doctorate degree from a college or university accredited by one of the six (6) major regional accrediting bodies within the United States (ie., MSA, NEASC, NCA, NAC, SACS or WACS)
    • Ten percent (10%) of exam score on ALL entry level examinations
  • Associates Degree from a college or university by one of the six (6) major regional accrediting bodies within the United States (ie., MSA, NEASC, NCA, NAC, SACS or WACS)
    • Five percent (5%) of exam score on ALL entry level examinations
  • Resident of City of Lorain for minimum of one year immediately preceding examination (must provide driver’s license and utility or cable bill)
    • Five percent (5%) of exam score on ALL entry level examinations
  • Active Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Police certificate
    • Five percent (5%) of exam score
    • For Police Department positions only.
  • Full time law enforcement service
    • One percent (1%) per year for full time service, not exceeding five percent (5%) of the applicant’s passing score and such service shall be within the five (5) years immediately preceding the date of examination (must provide letter from previous employer indicating number of years of service.)
    • For Police Department positions only.

We have also changed the agility portion of the test.

  • Males
    • Sit ups — 32 in 1 minute
    • Push ups — 19 in 1 minute
    • 1.5 Mile run — 14:34 time limit
  • Females
    • Sit ups — 23 in 1 minute
    • Push ups — 9 in 1 minute
    • 1.5 Mile run — 17:49 time limit

These are the pre-academy standards and there will be a post academy test after you are hired and complete the police academy.
